Nelson Mandela: The Legacy Debate will take place on Monday 16th July in Queen Elizabeth Hall of London’s Southbank Centre. The debate is free but ticketed, and is one of several associated events surrounding the Nelson Mandela Centenary Exhibition, which opens to the public the following day, Tuesday 17th July at 4pm.
The debate will feature a diverse panel chaired by BBC presenter Zeinab Badawi and including those who knew Mandela as well as younger voices from South Africa and the diaspora, discussing the essence of Mandela, his life and many legacies.
On the panel is ANC stalwart Pallo Jordan, who served in Nelson Mandela’s cabinet; former anti-apartheid campaigner and ACTSA honorary vice president, Lord Peter Hain, as well as those others who have grown up with Mandela from afar including youth voice from the South African diaspora Lebeko Matabane.
