Cancelling unfair debt

Historic and illegal debt denies millions economic and social human rights across Southern Africa. See how you can help #CancelTheDebt today.

Background

A particularly useful way of understanding poverty is that it represents the denial of economic and social human rights. Considering global resources in the 21st century, it is unacceptable for any person to be denied these rights, much less whole countries held to ransom by banks and lenders in the UK.

ACTSA campaigns on unfair debt and illegal outflows across the region linking the causes of poverty and severe hardship to current and historic debt – giant imbalances of power, largely arising from colonialism.

Working with Debt Justice we support legislation in the UK and elsewhere limiting unsustainable debt repayments to banks and private lenders in London and New York.
