Youth Activist Community
ACTSA’s Young Activists Community understand the realities facing young people across the globe and have a strong interest in the issues around inequality. Working across the UK with their peers and others committed to a more equal world and fairer access to resources, they are the change makers who make a difference in every city or village.
From Bristol to Brighton or Glasgow to Gloucester, there’s a chain of support for Young Activists through the ACTSA ‘family’ to get to the heart of the issues, catalysing debate and mobilising campaigns for social justice, climate action and equality.
We’re working with the new @PentonStreetCML (Anti-Apartheid Legacy: Centre for Memory and Learning) who curate arts, cultural and educational programmes around the history of anti-racism and activism in the UK to encourage positive action among diverse contemporary communities.
Former ACTSA Young Activists travelled to Southern Africa on delegations – seeing for themselves the solutions to challenges left by apartheid and colonialism. Two of those delegates are now among our trustees. Young Activists develop their own programme of dialogues, campaigns and support anti-racism work in their localities.
Completing the programme will give young activists the opportunity to:
- Be a local ACTSA organiser for university-linked events, campaigns and projects.
- Join meetups for free film screenings and cultural connections (and bring your friends).
- Talk in local schools about the issues and foster enquiring minds.
- Connect with like-minded peers at skills training and work experience programmes.
- Link with local former anti-apartheid campaigners for mentorship and support.
- Access free coaching, job hunting tools, experiences future employers will look for.
- Directly support people in Southern Africa also campaigning for justice and rights.
Our programme of training and engagement starts now, with direct opportunities to get involved in campaigns with ACTSA, learn about the Anti-Apartheid Movement in Britain and how it connected to the region.
