Update on Impact of COVID-19 Crisis on ACTSA

17/04/2020

In these extraordinary circumstances, it is especially crucial for us to stand in solidarity with the people of Southern Africa, who have requested for our support. Over the past few weeks, we have been able to share our official statement on the impact of the global pandemic in Southern Africa; we and two of our partners have written a letter to the World Bank asking some pertinent questions relating to the proposed US$6 billion investment in health systems strengthening and disease surveillance; we have joined others in signing and promoting an urgent action to ensure everyone has access to COVID-19 testing, treatments and vaccines; and we have written an open letter to the finance ministers of all SADC countries on the impact of COVID-19 and wider debt justice in Southern Africa, which will be published soon by the Daily Maverick.

There’s a lot more that we can and are committed to do. Unfortunately, the Coronavirus crisis is having an impact on our income and consequently, we have made the difficult decision to close ACTSA until the end of June. During that time, we will have limited operations going through our Board of Trustees. If you should have anything urgent to get in touch with us about during the time we will be closed for, please do so through our general email box, [email protected].

If we are to return and be able to continue the important work we must do, without risk of further interruptions, then we will need your help, our members and supporters. Follow this link to read our assessment of the COVID-19 situation in Southern Africa, as informed by the concerns of our partners in the region, and please donate what you can.

Thank you for your continued support.
