23 October 2025: Action for Southern Africa (ACTSA) and Environment Africa Zambia, in partnership with London Mining Network (LMN) and Rights and Accountability (RAID) have today released a new report about lead pollution in Kabwe, Zambia.
The report, called Life in the world’s most polluted town:The origins of lead contamination in Kabwe, its impacts on children, and the case for corporate accountability brings new case studies of mothers in Kabwe whose children have lead poisoning together with more about the origin of the lead contamination, where responsbility for clean up lies, the latest medical research and more on the class action.

This is ahead of a critical appeal hearing in South Africa on 3-4 November as part of a class action suit filed against Anglo American on behalf of 140,000 women and children in Kabwe.
19-25th October marks the World Health Organization’s Lead Poisoning Prevention Week. This year’s theme is that there is ‘no safe level’ and urges urgent action to protect children.
