Book Launch ‘In a Rain of Dust by David Kinley’
Tue 17 Jun
St Martins Hall, Crypt, Trafalgar Square, WC2N 4JJ
The book launch of In a Rain of Dust by David Kinley marks a significant moment in both legal and human rights history. Hosted by ACTSA and co-hosted by Leigh Day—lawyers renowned for championing justice against injustice. The event will take place at St Martin’s Hall, Crypt, Trafalgar Square, WC2N 4JJ, on 17 June 2025 at 6:30 PM.
This book uncovers the compelling inside story of a groundbreaking legal case that brought justice to South African asbestos workers, many of whom suffered and died due to industrial negligence. The case was the first successful legal action taken against a multinational company in Southern Africa, and ACTSA played a pivotal role throughout the proceedings. Kinley’s account promises to shed light on both the deceit of powerful corporations and the perseverance of the victims, their lawyers, and campaigners.
The launch will offer attendees the opportunity to hear more about the case and to explore the broader implications of corporate accountability, historical injustice, and international solidarity. Attendees will also hear directly from both Richard Meeran, Partner and Head of the International & Group Litigation Department at Leigh Day, and David Kinley, the book’s author and Chair of Human Rights Law at the University of Sydney. We encourage attendees to register in advance and to pre-order the book by visiting bit.ly/InaRainofDust or emailing [email protected].
Published by Johns Hopkins University Press, this powerful exposé is expected to resonate not only within legal and human rights circles but also with the wider public concerned about justice, corporate responsibility, and the enduring legacies of colonial-era exploitation.
