Recognition celebrates a South African whose work for justice has reached around the world

Action for Southern Africa (ACTSA) congratulates South African jurist and human rights champion Navanethem “Navi” Pillay on being awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.

Pillay has spent her life standing up for justice, equality and human dignity. From the struggle against apartheid in South Africa to her work advancing international justice, she has consistently challenged oppression and defended the rights of people around the world.

Her recognition is a reminder that the struggle for justice does not end at national borders. At a time when international law and human rights protections face serious challenges, those responsible for human rights violations must be held accountable, and the rights and dignity of all people must be defended.

ACTSA hopes this recognition will encourage and inspire others to speak out against injustice and continue working towards a world founded on equality, dignity and respect for human rights.

“Navi Pillay has spent her life standing up for justice, equality and human dignity. Her recognition is richly deserved and should inspire others to defend the rights and dignity of all people, wherever they are threatened.” –  Rachel Palma Randle | Director  ACTSA
