Two protests are to be held in solidarity with the people of Zimbabwe in London this week outside the Embassy of Zimbabwe in London, WC2R 0JR.
The Trades Union Congress protest will take place on Friday 1st Feb, 12-1pm
Zimbabwe Vigil, which takes place every Saturday, will continue as usual on Saturday 2nd Feb, 2.30-4.30pm
The protests are a response to the violent repression of peaceful protesters, including the leaders and members of our partner, the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU), who called for a peaceful three-day strike in mid-January. Since then, Zimbabwean security forces have used live ammunition against civilians, killing at least 12 people and wounding 78 others with gunfire. Civil society activists and opposition politicians have been arbitrarily arrested and detained. Door-to-door raids, beatings and rapes by police and men in military uniform have also been reported.
